Create a Harvest personal access token
The importer needs a personal access token from Harvest ID → Developers, created by a Harvest Administrator. It only lets LockedHours read your data.
Who can do this: Harvest AdministratorsUpdated · 2 min read
Before you start
- A Harvest login with the Administrator role in the Harvest account you're importing.
Create the token
Step 1: Open Harvest ID → Developers (the same link is on the LockedHours import page). Sign in with your Harvest Administrator login if asked.
Step 2: Click Create new personal access token.
Step 3: Type a name you'll recognize, such as LockedHours import, and confirm.
Step 4: On the token's page, find Your Token and copy the whole value. Don't copy the Account ID shown next to it: LockedHours finds your accounts by itself.
Step 5: Paste it in LockedHours, in Harvest personal access token, and click Preview my import.
What LockedHours does with it
- We only read from Harvest. Nothing in Harvest is created, changed or deleted.
- The token is stored encrypted while the import can run, and deleted when it finishes (at the latest after 24 hours).
- The field hides what you paste, like a password field.
Revoke it afterwards
Go back to Harvest ID → Developers, open the token and delete it. Imported data stays in LockedHours.
Common problems
I don't see a Developers page in Harvest
Make sure you're in Harvest ID (id.getharvest.com), not inside a Harvest account's settings. If you still can't find it, a Harvest Administrator needs to create the token.
My token was refused
Copy it again, from the first to the last character, with no spaces. If it still fails, create a new token: old ones may have been revoked.
Someone else is our Harvest Administrator
They can create the token and send it to you through a password manager or a secure channel, or make you an Administrator in Harvest for the day.
